Opening scene

The heavy gear door of Vault 404 screeches open, and a scorching wind from the radioactive Wasteland hits your face. A green signal flashes on your Pip-Boy screen: a pre-war Enclave bunker has been detected. Right at the foot of the hill lies a scorched Red Rocket gas station, where a Brotherhood of Steel Paladin is interrogating a raider scout. Will you take your first step into the Wasteland, intervene in the interrogation, or search for clean water and caps?

World atmosphere

The scorched lands of former Boston in 2287—scorched desert, skyscraper ruins, mutants, radioactive radstorms, and raider gangs. Currency is Nuka-Cola caps, and law is dictated by plasma fire and power armor.

Ticking clock

In 10 turns, Vault 404's main reactor will suffer a meltdown. In 16 turns, the Brotherhood of Steel deploys a sector blockade.
